Bad Business Habits to Kick… Now!

Many people read articles about how to become successful, whether it’s about marketing your business, organizing your life, or how to network effectively. However, there are also some bad habits you may have picked up along the way, without realizing it may be affecting you on the day-to-day! An article compiled in Entrepreneur showcases bad habits to cut from your daily routine now, from successful entrepreneurs:

  • Stop just accepting failure— from Mark Cuban: Be just afraid of failure so that you work really hard, but not so afraid that you don’t take any chances. Find the balance that motivates you—and if you do fail, accept it, take it as a learning experience and move on to the next thing. According to Cuban in an interview, he says “I’m always afraid of failing… it’s great motivation to work harder.”
  • Stop ignoring criticism— from Elon Musk: Nobody likes negative feedback… but sometimes it can be helpful to you and the business. Constructive criticism is always a good thing—especially when it can motivate you to improve your product, service or bottom line. Either way, consider criticism rather than just ignoring it. It may have merit!
  • Stop ignoring customers— from 50 Cent: Listening to your customers is key, according to the rapper and successful clothing and music entrepreneur. If people aren’t responding to what you’re doing, it’s time to listen and start making changes. Customer preferences can help you in growing your business!
  • Stop acting like a big business—from Richard Branson: If you’re a small business, great! Use that angle as a strength to beat big businesses. Treat your employees well, get to know the team and build a company that people are excited and proud to work for. Being a small team allows you to respond to customer needs and react quickly to a changing market. As a small business, you can make decisions quickly and use that to your advantage.
  • Stop settling—from Steve Jobs: Love what you do. If you’re not in business because you truly love your job and the mission of the company, it’s time to find something else. As Jobs once said in a Stanford commencement speech, “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.”

Have you fallen victim to any of these bad habits? How did you turn it around and grow from the experience?
