The Road to Success: Why Attitude Matters

A recent Stanford University research suggests that a person’s attitude is a better predictor of their success than their IQ. Psychologist Carol Dweck categorized people’s attitudes into two categories: the fixed mindset and the growth mindset.

People with a fixed mindset assume that they their character, intelligence and creativity are a given and they would not be able to change it in any way. On the other hand, people with a growth mindset believe that they can improve and grow their capacities to learn and solve problems. These are the people who thrive on challenge and see failure as an opportunity for learning and growth. They label failure as an approach that did not work and work to find one that will work.

Success is defined by how one handles the many setbacks and failures that life throws at them and rise out of those moments stronger and better than before. People with a growth mindset find it easier to rise out of ashes than the others because of their perspective to see failures as avenues of change, challenge and growth.

The good news is, the growth mindset can be an acquired framework of mind. Whichever spectrum of the mindset you fall under, there are steps you could take to change your perspectives and set yourself on the path to success.

Pull yourself together: Truth is, we all have moments of helplessness. What matters is how we react to these situations. Success comes when we acknowledge that all plans crumble and we decide to bounce back from our failures. The more classy our bounce backs, the better our success.

Pursue your passions: When you pursue your truest passions, it becomes easier to accept challenges as learning opportunities and find joy in successes.

What’s stopping you? Nothing! People with a growth mindset are go-getters who don’t wait for perfect moments but take action without letting anxiety and fear stop them.

Give it your all: Successful people don’t limit how much they give to their cause. They don’t hesitate to go the extra mile. They find their passion and give it everything they’ve got and keep outdoing themselves.

Define results: Success needs to be measured. Define what success means to you and work to meet those definitions.

Smile when it goes wrong: When things don’t go according to your plan, don’t let it get you on a downward spiral. Adversities happen. Failures happen. Surprises happen. Instead of letting them bog you down, smile, breathe and find ways to do better next time.
