Building Your WISE Business Foundation: Cayuga County

Are you thinking about starting a business, or are you in the early stages of launching one in Cayuga County? This special combined session brings together two of WISE’s most popular introductory offerings into one convenient virtual event.

We’ll start with an introduction to WISE Women’s Business Center — who we are, who we serve, and how our no-cost counseling, training, and connections can support your entrepreneurial journey across Central New York, including Cayuga County specifically.

Then, we’ll dive into the essentials of starting a business, covering:

• Understanding the small business landscape and common reasons businesses succeed or fail
• Conducting market research — knowing who your customer is and what problem you solve for them
• Business planning basics, including a simple one-page business model framework
• Financial fundamentals: startup costs, operating costs, and your break-even point
• Building your “BAIL” team (Banker, Accountant, Insurance agent, Lawyer) and other support resources
• Making it legal: entity formation, registration, licensing, and permits

Whether you’re still exploring your idea or ready to take your first concrete steps, this session will give you a clear roadmap — plus a chance to learn how WISE’s free counseling and resources can support you along the way.

Who Should Attend: This event is designed especially for aspiring and early-stage entrepreneurs in Cayuga County, though all are welcome.
