SEO: Making it Easy as 1-2-3

If you’re wondering why your local community isn’t talking about your business, maybe it’s time to look into local Search Engine Optimization (more commonly known as SEO). SEO is a ubiquitous tool that’s used in every major business organization that has an online presence and most marketing strategies use SEO techniques to drive traffic to their website in hopes of increasing their revenue.

Local SEO is the process of optimizing a business for a specific geographic location in addition to a specific category or range of service offerings. Using geo-location technology, local SEO is a “highly targeted” and “niche strategy” that every entrepreneur and small business should look into. According to an article on Entrepreneur, the following is why you should be taking full advantage of it.

Mobile experience: According to a study, over 53% ad expenditure would be allocated to advertising on mobile (and 46% of searchers use mobile to look for products and most are local). Google and other search engines are supporting this trend quite well and are responding to it. They’re helping collecting more information about their users’ locations and search history and correlating to give them the local offers that they can access easily. However, a flip side is that even if you’re a big national company and don’t have business operations in certain areas, the local businesses in those areas will outrank because of the proximity to the searcher.

Less competition: Local SEO also means less competition. Scrambling for a keyword that is popular nationally might not be the case since in the local area, it would be quite different. Local visibility automatically brings in more organic public relations. Constantly publishing interesting stories and valuable content about your local communities will bring in more traffic to your website. It’s one of the fastest ways to get to your local consumer. Attending local events will also help your spread the buzz faster.

National brands also need local SEO: Companies who have a great national presence can make use of local SEO to target their relevant customers and focus on a particular set of audience in a given area. You can still go after a national audience by maintaining previous strategies, but incorporating local techniques will bring in the best business.

You can optimize best practices by getting on strategic social media platforms and free local directories such as Google My Business and Yelp to help you reach out to your local audience. It’s important to follow up with long terms strategies will bring in the desired audience to your business.
